Men's Nationals 2021 cancelled
The New Zealand Men's and Mixed Netball Association Board sadly confirms that due to the ongoing Covid-19 Delta outbreak, New Zealand Men's Nationals 2021 has been cancelled.
"The Board recognises all the hard work and effort put in by players, coaches, managers and associations. The ongoing health and safety of our members and the public is paramount and we believe this is the right decision at this time." said Junior Tana, NZMMNA President.
"The Board also assessed the options of holding an "invitational" style tournament with those teams who could still attend from regions in Level 2, but the restrictions placed on indoor sporting venues meant this was not a viable logistical option under current settings." said Tana.
The Board is open to considering financial support for member associations who may wish to run local tournaments, and any member who wishes to inquire about this should email us at secretary.nzmmna@hotmail.com.
In light of this cancellation, the Board is actively considering a change to the 2022 NZMMNA Calendar, where Men's and Mixed Nationals 2022 would be rescheduled. This would mean potentially, that Men's Nationals 2022 would take place in the early part of 2022, with Mixed Nationals held in later months. We will engage with members over the coming weeks on this potential shift and confirm any decisions as soon as possible.

Cadbury Netball Series Squad update
Today, NZMMNA were informed by Netball New Zealand that our exemption applications for players and management based in Auckland and the Waikato regions was declined. We are disappointed for our players and management, but we respect the decision made.
Given the extraordinary challenges that the ongoing COVID-19 Delta outbreak has caused, and in partnership with Netball New Zealand, the NZMMNA Board have agreed to elevate Junior Tana and Josh McCombie, who have been with the squad as training partners, to full squad members.
The Board assessed the options available, and while this is not the decision we would have wanted to make, in concert with the coaches, we believe this is the right decision for the Aotearoa Men's squad.
Our thoughts are with players Kruze Tangira, Maru Delamere, Joseph Tukaki, Timmy Apisai, Dan Rich, Quintin Gerber and our manager, Jill Findlay. We appreciate you all and know they send their best wishes to the playing squad.
Note: Junior Tana has stood down from his role as NZMMNA President and Cadbury Series Board Liaison until the end of the Cadbury Series. Junior Manapori will be Acting NZMMNA President and John Kingi will act as Board Liaison.

Coaches and Managers appointments - Cadbury Series 2021
The New Zealand Men's and Mixed Netball Association are pleased to announce the management team to lead the New Zealand Men's Invitational team at the 2021 Cadbury Series.
"The NZMMNA Board approved these appointments following a rigorous, transparent and fair selection process" said Junior Tana, NZMMNA President.
"We received a number of highly qualified applicants, who I want to acknowledge and thank, and it was by no means an easy decision. We trust in our processes and believe that we have the right mix of experience, skills and potential to achieve our number one goal - to win the Cadbury Series" Tana added.
Leading the coaching team as Head Coach, is David Pala'amo, a veteran of the New Zealand men's scene with 17 consecutive open men's titles and numerous international accolades to his name.
"I am humbled to be leading this invitational team and I look forward to getting in and working with my fellow management team to take back the Cadbury Series title" said Pala'amo who also coached the inaugural Cadbury Men's team to success in 2019.
"Playing the Silver Ferns is always an honour, however our focus needs to be on us, and when we step out on court, our primary aim will be to win" added Pala'amo.
Joining Pala'amo as an Assistant coach is Wellington based, Dion Te Whetu, a former New Zealand Men's and Under 23's head coach.
"I am excited to be working alongside David, and look forward to experiencing the Cadbury Series and winning back the Cadbury title, as Assistant Coach" said Te Whetu.
Supporting the coaching team is experienced manager Jill Findlay, who has previously managed teams at the elite level including New Zealand A and Under 21 teams.
"I put my hat in the ring as I have the experience to hit the ground running. With only 16 days until we go into camp, there isn't room for learning on the job. I appreciate the opportunity to contribute to this series and team. By doing my job right, I will give the team the best shot at taking back the Cadbury title" said Findlay.
Alongside Findlay, and with an eye to the future, Jemma Karetai has been appointed Assistant Manager.
"I am absolutely stoked to be offered this role. I am hugely passionate about Men's Netball and have come up through the Men's and Mixed pathway in Christchurch. I can't wait to work alongside David, Dion, Jill and the squad to support the Men to win the series" said Karetai.
"On behalf of New Zealand Men's and Mixed we congratulate the coaching and management staff and we look forward to seeing them take on the Silver Ferns. Karawhiua!" concluded Tana.
An announcement on the 14 selected players who will contest the Cadbury Series will be made on Wednesday 22 September at 12pm.

Expression of Interest Sought - High Performance and Cadbury Series 2021
NZMMNA has initiated the formation of a high performance programme (HPP) aimed at identifying and supporting high performance athletes that are willing to contribute to the growth and development of our game and align with the expectations of NZMMNA's objectives and purpose. This will ensure readiness to compete on an international stage, and achieve NZMMNA goals.
As a preliminary step NZMMNA are calling for expressions of interest from our player base who would like to be considered for selection in the first high performance programme. The list of players generated by this process will be handed to the 5 selectors who will then select an initial squad using this key information at the 2021 Men's Nationals.
If you are a member of a Men's netball association in New Zealand, you can apply to be considered for selection into the high performance programme.
In addition, we are calling for expressions of interest from coaches, managers and players to participate in an invitational NZ Men's Team to compete against the Silver Ferns in a Cadbury Series replacing the Constellation Cup. You will need to be available from October 7-12, 2021.
Further details will be announced by Netball New Zealand, but anyone who is interested in participating as the coach, manager or as a player, please complete one of the below forms. An announcement will be made next week regarding the selected coaches, manager/s and players.

New Zealand Men's Nationals rescheduled
Tēnā koutou,
The NZMMNA Board met on Thursday 2 September and have made the following decisions regarding Men's Nationals 2021:
- Men's Nationals 2021 has been rescheduled and will be held in either Wednesday 3 November - Saturday 6 November OR Wednesday 17 - Saturday 20 November in Wellington to be confirmed following close of entries
- the tournament will be held at ASB Sports Centre, as Te Rauparaha Arena is not releasing any dates in November at present
- the tournament will only go ahead if Wellington is at Alert Level 1, and every other region in Aotearoa is at Alert Levels 1 or 2
- if at any point from Wednesday 27 October Wellington goes above Alert Level 1, and/or any other region in Aotearoa goes above Alert Level 2, the tournament will be immediately cancelled to ensure fairness of access for all regions
- the Board is developing a contingency plan if the tournament has already commenced and there is an Alert Level change
- all prior entries for Men's Nationals have been withdrawn. New entries will be required and will open for 1 week from Friday 3 September and close on Friday 10 September. Please submit new entries here.
- Friday 10 September is a hard deadline and no further entries will be allowed after that date
- a further update will be made at the AGM on Tuesday 14 September, regarding the confirmed dates, entries and the draw
Important considerations included the health and safety of all players, coaches, managers and support staff, the availability of venues and the need to provide certainty for our teams and members. Organising and participating in a national tournament is no easy feat and requires significant volunteer time. We appreciate that our decisions have consequences that impact people and we believe the decisions we have made are the best possible in difficult circumstances. It is our hope that teams are able to attend the rescheduled tournament.
Our website has been updated to reflect these new changes, including new dates for fees, umpires and player registrations which you can view here.
Please get in touch with us if you require any support or clarification,
Kia haumaru, stay safe,
NZMMNA
